Here are four preparations we can make to mentally equip ourselves to grow beyond where we presently are:
1. Expect change. Our level of expectancy reveals where our faith is concerning a particular matter. One of the things that will never change is the fact that change is going to occur (whether we like it or not). When you see things happening around you, embrace the change and use it to your advantage. I recommend a very popular book called, “Who Moved My Cheese?”
2. Endure discomfort. It is always disconcerting coming out of our comfort zone. Allow the pain of where you are to be greater than the pain it will take to get you where you are going. Keeping the goal before you will empower you to endure the discomfort of getting there. I am thankful that Jesus never took his eyes off of the end result. (Hebrews 12:2)
3. Confront fear.Your life will be motivated by one of two key variables, faith or fear. We grow from “fath to faith” which means that we will always be confronting fear in some dimension. Don’t allow yourself to be intimidated by fear, but rather, use it as a gauge to identify places that are still immature.
4. Look for and enjoy a challenge. This doesn’t mean that you have to be fully proficient at everything. It only indicates that you are willing to pursue something new. You will never develop the spirit of a victor until you overcome something. Becoming “more than a conqueror” means that we have to learn how to prevail in increasingly difficult things.
Allow God to become the architect of your life as you discern and follow him in all things. Then you will continue to be transformed into his image on your way to fulfilling his purposes for your life.
