While I was in Haiti this week I went up on the roof of a two-story building to look out over the city and pray. I was overwhelmed with the realization that there is a “glory” in every nation that God desires to reveal through the people in that place. Regardless of what things look like on the surface, it is there and just waiting to be revealed.
I immediately thought of Luke 4:5, 6. “Then the devil took him up to a high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And he said unto him, “To you will I give all this power and authority and their glory, for it has been turned over to me, and I will give it to whomever I will.”
Before I left on the trip, everyone I spoke to about my intentions had something negative to say about my destination. I was aware that none of them had ever been there before and they were just relaying a report they heard from someone else’s experience. They had no concern for reality, and didn’t care to look for it. They had accepted what someone else told them and based any further judgments on that limited knowledge.
Was their knowledge factual? To a degree, yes. However, there was another reality they weren’t looking for or failed to observe.
My report? Here is what I found:
Hunger for God and His Word; individuals who cared about their nation and longed to see and were willing to work for positive change; a yearning for righteous leaders who care more for the people than their offshore bank accounts; parents who love their children and want to see them healthy and educated; and a value on relationships.
What are you looking for in others?
You will probably find it.
