The Great Commission and the Local Church

February 18th, 2009 · 1 Comment · Global Movement

Here are a few more nuggets from day three of the Missions Mobilization Summit taken from the Global Pathways training track:

“The biggest misunderstanding in the body of Christ today concerning missions that we must correct is — Missions is not a special call to a chosen few, it is the mandate of Christ to every Christian.

Jesus birthed the Church. (John 20:22)

Jesus commissioned the Church. (Mark 16:15)

Jesus empowered the Church to carry out the commission. (Acts 1:8)

God has established the local church as His instrument in the earth to unify the efforts of individuals for the sake of the global harvest. The local church is the sending force behind every missions endeavor, and the seedbed for all future missionaries.”

The old, “If you’re not called to stay, you’re called to go” sentiment, eh? I believe it with my whole heart. If we would spend half of the energy that we devote to making excuses about why the great commission doesn’t apply to us on making disciples in the nations, we could have dinner with Jesus tomorrow night.
