A Turning And A Re-turning

May 18th, 2009 · No Comments · Apostolic Perspectives

Yesterday, in our corporate worship we received a word that emphasized “turning” and “returning.” The current extreme changes taking place in the American socio-political-economic landscape is causing great anxiety to arise in many. A compounding sense of helplessness and frustration can be heard everywhere including the Church. Thankfully, God is not caught off guard and is allowing the decisions of men to bear the consequences of their actions. Unfortunately, it will cause hardship and discomfort to many who are caught in the middle.

Turning - In times of uncertainty, people look for answers and solutions that will result in stability. There is nothing more stable and certain than the Kingdom of God! This can be the greatest hour for the Church to offer the message of hope to all who are searching for truth. The universal principles found in the Scriptures have remained constant throughout the ages and will continue to provide for all who build their lives upon them.

“And the hand of the Lord was with them, and a large number who believed turned to the Lord.” (Acts 11:21)

Re-turning - Many are also evaluating their lives and setting new priorities. They are realizing that they have built on inferior foundations and are coming back to their “first Love.” The “shaking” helps us to let go of the unnecessary things that we have hung on to but are not pertinent to life. The current shifting will cause us to place a greater value on relationships rather than things.

“In returning to Me and resting in Me you shall be saved; in quietness and in trusting confidence shall be your strength.” (Isaiah 30:15)
