Horizons - Where Heaven Meets Earth

May 23rd, 2009 · 2 Comments · Kingdom Leadership

I have a particular affinity for horizons. So much so, that I have used the term in the naming of this blog site. There is something about the view that beckons us to a place we have never been and invites us into a realm of seemingly endless opportunities. It is like permission to venture beyond the familiar and safe into a yet unexplored world of fresh insight and discovery.

Webster’s Dictionary defines horizon as, “the apparent junction of earth and sky,” and, “the plane tangent to the earth’s surface at an observer’s position.” What we see (in any dimension of life) is determined in a large part by the vantage point of where we are observing from. If we want to see farther, we have to secure a higher place in which to view our situation.

I recommend periodic ”time-outs” for extended sessions of staring into the horizon. Not to be drawn into some kind of passive trance, but to actively dream, meditate, pray, and allow God to broaden your view. Try it some time, you might be surprised by what you see.
