(updated 1-22-10)
I try to read one book per week (the book at the top of the list is the one I am currently into). For 2010, I will make this a running list to track what I have been able to cover throughout the year.
Attachments - Dr. Timothy Clinton and Dr. Gary Sibcy. Why you love, feel, and act the way you do.
LifeWork - Darrow Miller. A biblical theology for what you do every day.
Truth and Transformation - Vishal Mangalwadi. A manifesto for ailing nations.
Shame: Identity Thief - Dr. Henry Malone
Liberty and Tyranny, a conservative manifesto - Mark. A. Levin. This book is a must-read for anyone seeking greater understanding of the current political state in America and the world.
End The Fed - Ron Paul.
When Helping Hurts - Steve Corbett and Brian Fikkert. How to alleviate poverty without hurting the poor and yourself. A good expansion of the groundwork accomplished by Bryant Meyers in “Walking With The Poor.”
2009 List
Renovation of the Heart - Dallas Willard. Putting on the character of Christ.
The Miracle of Recovery - Sharon Wegscheider-Cruse. Healing for addicts, adult children, and co-dependents.
The Seven Mountain Prophecy - Johnny Enlow. Unveiling the coming Elijah revolution.
Broken - William Cope Moyers. A story of addiction and redemption.
Unbound - Neal Lozano.
Prophets, Healers, and the Emerging Church - John and Paula Sandford.
Why You Do The Things You Do - Dr. Tim Clinton and Dr. Gary Sibcy.
The Recovery Book - Al J. Mooney, M.D. Al shares a wealth of information and insight gained through two generations of recovery ministry. This is a handbook for anyone involved in recovery ministry.
Transformation - Ed Silvoso. Change the marketplace and you change the world.
Apostles of the City - C. Peter Wagner. How to mobilize territorial apostles for city transformation.
Discipling Nations…the power of truth to transform cultures - Darrow L. Miller.
The Heart of a Leader - Ken Blanchard. Insights on the art of influence.
The Forgotten Ways - Alan Hirsch. A practical guide for developing missional churches.
If Jesus Were Mayor - Bob Moffitt. How your local church can transform your community.
Walking With The Poor…principles and practices of transformational development - Bryant L. Myers. This is definitely a handbook for anyone seeking to understand poverty from a biblical perspective. Required reading for anyone involved in mission work.
A Long Way Gone…memoirs of a boy soldier - Ismael Beah. A shocking story about a boy who was forced to fight during the civil war in Sierra Leone. (I was so captivated by this book that I read it in less than two days.)
The Book that Transforms Nations - Loren Cunningham. The author’s vast experience shows how the Scriptures have changed the course of nations throughout history and instills the hope that the same power is still available today.
Worship Him - Fuchsia Pickett. Discovering the joy of pure spiritual worship. Fuchsia offers some great insights into the power and purpose of worship.
Epic Battles of the Last Days - Rick Joyner. More awesome teaching that reveals the nature and manifestations of evil that the Church must learn how to counter as we continue towards the end times.
The Experience Economy - B. Joseph Pine and James Gilmore. How successful companies and individuals stage experiences that lead to transformation. The book is summed up by the author saying, “What we once sought for free, we now pay a fee.”
When Charity Destroys Dignity - Glen J. Schwartz. Overcoming unhealthy dependency in the Christian movement. This book contains a strong but relevant word that is necessary in our efforts to disciple people and nations.
The Last Addiction - Sharon A. Hersh. This book explains why “self-help” is not enough and how you can find lasting freedom from addictions through connection with loving community.
Before You Do - T. D. Jakes. How to best make decisions that you won’t live to regret.
Purple Cow - by Seth Godin. I know, I’m five years behind the curve reading this one but it is still relevant for today (possibly even more so…).
Total Money Makeover - by Dave Ramsey. A no-holds-barred deconstruction (or better yet, destruction) of debt-laden living. Dave candidly tells it like it is and presents hope and a vision to become debt-free. This book is a stable voice in the midst of an insane, consumer-driven, debt-strained society.
Developing a Supernatural Lifestyle - by Kris Vallotton. I had a hard time sticking with this one. It is primarily accounts of supernatural experiences from Kris’s life.
A Message to the Glorious Church (volumes 1 and 2)- by Rick Joyner. The title sets you up. Great insights (from the book of Ephesians) on the Kingdom and God’s desire for His church.
The Shack - by William Young. The revelation on love has touched me at a deep place. Though it is theologically debatable in some areas, don’t let that fact keep you from gleaning some powerful insight into God’s love.
Tribes - by Seth Godin. It seems like Seth is always ahead of the curve when it comes to sociological trends. He is obviously the leader of a significant and ever-expanding tribe. His insights have caused me to adjust some of the things I am doing in business and ministry.
Outliers - by Malcom Gladwell. This book changes how we look at the significant achievements of others. The content will certainly surprise you and prove that no one becomes successful by themselves.
The Shaping of Things to Come - by Michael Frost and Alan Hirsh. These guys have a definite word for the church in the West. They are quite analytical in their articulation concerning the apostolic and prophetic graces. This book will accomplish it’s title.
Discipling the Nations - by Don Atkin. Drawing from a deep well of ministry experience and a love for the church, Don’s articulation challenges our paradigm of the Great Comission gives us a map to the nations.
Dreaming With God - by Bill Johnson. Another delivery from Bill that encourages us to go deeper, higher, and further with God.
